The Shramik Sahitya Sammelan is a unique space for informal workers to share their poems, songs, stories, and lived experiences. Those who build our cities, maintain its infrastructure, and contribute to its everyday life, often remain invisible. This annual initiative of ComplexCity creates a rare public platform for workers to present poems, stories, songs, street plays, and other cultural expressions rooted in their lived realities.
Despite the long hours and demanding nature of their jobs, many labourers and informal workers continue to engage with literature and art, often using them as a means to reflect on life, resist injustice, and rebuild hope. The Sahitya Sammelan honours this spirit and brings these voices to the centre stage.
In its third edition, the 2025 Sammelan focused on the social and mental health of informal workers, with powerful performances and conversations by workers and guest artists alike. It wasn’t just a celebration, but a moment to listen, understand, and affirm the strength of cultural expression from the margins.
This platform is helping to reshape what literary spaces can look like, making them more inclusive, grounded, and transformative.
